Ryan Fini - Violin Maker
At his workshop in Albuquerque New Mexico, Ryan Fini focuses solely on the production of fine concert violins, violas, and cellos. He draws his inspiration from the techniques and working methods of the classic Italian masters, focusing on creating instruments with the finest tonal quality, playability, and physical beauty.
A violinist since childhood, Ryan has always had a strong passion for music and the violin. While studying music at the University of New Mexico, he became fascinated with the art of violin making and began to study and explore the history of the violin and its construction. Upon graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Ryan was accepted to the North Bennet Street School violin making program in Boston Massachusetts where he was completely immersed in learning the fine art of making violin family instruments. Between semesters, Ryan worked for violin maker Kevin Kelly where he was able to learn the fundamentals of violin repair and setup. Upon his Graduation from the North Bennet Street School, Ryan received the Violin Making Award for Distinguished Craftsmanship as well as the interdepartmental DMT Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship. After receiving his violin making diploma, Ryan left Boston to work for David Brewer Fine Violins, where he performed setup and restoration on fine antique instruments. During his time there, he was able to study some of the very finest examples of the great Italian masters, including instruments by Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri “Del Gesu”, Nicolo Amati, G.B. Guadagnini and many others. The physical beauty, working methods, and tonal qualities of instruments by the great Italian masters remain Ryan’s principal inspiration in the process of violin making.
Today, Ryan Fini works as an independent violin maker in Albuquerque New Mexico, focusing solely on creating the finest violins, violas, and cellos. He prides himself on producing instruments to the highest standards of workmanship and tone production. Please contact Ryan to find out where his instruments are available for trial and purchase.
